The Friends of the Owosso Library is a non-profit, tax exempt organization whose purpose is to draw public attention to the resources and needs of the Shiawassee District Library--Owosso.

The group holds various fund raisers to help the library purchase items not included in their regular budget.  Presently, the Friends conduct a continuous booksale in the front entrance of the library.  Fiction, nonfiction, paperbacks, children’s books and other items are available for a donation.  Other items available for purchase are bookbags and books on the history of the library.

Another function of the group is to sponsor programs at the library for the enjoyment and enrichment of the community.  In the past, the Friends have purchased prizes for the summer reading program, sponsored performances by storytellers or musicians, and provided science programs for children. They have also sponsored adult programming on a wide range of topics.

New members are always welcome.  Dues are $5 per year for individuals, $10 for families, $20 for organizations and $100 for lifetime memberships
